The Realpolitik
In the early 2000s, I stumbled upon Warren Buffett’s significant silver position, which he had amassed to 130 million ounces, valued at nearly $1 billion. This investment was driven by his belief in silver's dual nature as both a precious and an industrial metal, which he considered useful and therefore valuable. Buffett's decision was influenced by the metal's myriad industrial and medical uses, such as in electronics, water purification, and medical equipment, which aligned with his investment philosophy of valuing assets with practical application.
Inspired by Buffett's strategic commodity investment, I regularly tuned into Canada’s prominent business network, now called BNN Bloomberg, absorbing interviews and forecasts by David Morgan. This led a friend and I to visit Scotia Bank in Downtown Toronto to purchase as much physical silver as we could afford, resulting in a 5X return on our investment.
Years later, after launching my podcast and gaining more credibility, I reached out to David to appear on my show. This collaboration led to additional live podcasts that I hosted for Spire Mining and Investment events in Toronto and New York in 2023.
During our discussions, I was impressed by David’s insights. Having worked for MarketWise Inc. and syndicating our research for years, I’ve always held David in high regard for his longstanding, quality independent research operation, a rarity in today’s landscape.
Since 1999, the Morgan Report has maintained a legacy that many new publications lack. Additionally, few new independent research entities serve as adequate torchbearers for the old school newsletter industry, in my humble opinion.
There was something special about receiving insightful newsletters in the early days, eagerly anticipating their arrival to gain market wisdom. This aspect of the business is what I appreciate and strive to honor. So, it led me to set up meetings with Mr. Morgan.
Through our discussions, I brainstormed with Mr. Morgan complementary elements to his publication that would add value to our aggregate reader base. Coincidentally, I have been revisiting my insights into realpolitik and indicated this as a valuable component.
Therefore, I am pleased to announce that I will be teaming up with The Morgan Report to release a monthly geopolitical publication encapsulating themes, trends, and current affairs for investors. This will harken back to the long-form content I was producing when I had more time. We will be previewing the content over the next few months, complementing the hedge fund management, asset management, R&D, and short-term trade-related activities, while simultaneously sending short notes with The Inversion Investor.
We drop soon.
